Staying at home full time has its challenges and also its moments of joy or enlightenment. Those latter moments are what keep you going through the daily ins and outs of childcare. Often it is the challenges of the day that I look back on and laugh about. Of course I am rarely laughing in the middle of such a challenge...
Take for example the other day. My recently potty-trained son had taken to being very independent about his toileting (i.e. wiping himself). While I wish to encourage such independence, there are moments when I also wish he would just ask for a little help. My daughter announced that there was "something brown" on the very white bath mat. Further investigation and some interrogation led to my son's admission that he had sat down to pull up his pants. How can you get mad about that?! At first I cursed the white bath mat (so easily stained!), but upon further reflection realized the consequences of a darker color (and undetected "stains") would have been much more dire. One must try to find the silver lining in these mishaps. It's either that or go insane!
So these posts will cover the good, the bad and the ugly (i.e. poo stains on the bath mat) of parenthood. This is therapy for me and hopefully for you too. You are not alone...
